rain, rain, go away...

Monday, April 30, 2012

Moving is such a funny thing. For me, it's something I've been looking forward to for months, but now that it's finally happened I'm finding it difficult to get into a new routine. It's probably partly due to Lani being sick from the third day we moved in. We haven't had a good night's sleep in over 10 days now. I'm starting to look haggard.

It's also because of this weather. I love when the snails come out, but that's about the only thing I enjoy. Rain, rain rain and more rain. Everyday it rains and it's cold. And windy. Scotland is such a beautiful place to live, but it never stops raining. I hate having to line the radiators and clothing horse with clothes. We've had one good day to dry clothes outside so far, and even then they didn't fully dry. The miserable weather also makes it harder to leave the house, but today, rain or shine, we're at least going to have ourselves a little stroll. Even if it's just for a carton of soy milk.

and if this little pumpy bum could just get to feeling better, well then I think that would bring the whole family morale right up, too! :)

around the flat...

Friday, April 27, 2012

Our internet is finally on, Lani is nearly well again, and we're getting closer to being unpacked and good to go! This new place makes me so happy, and I can't wait to really make it "ours".

Moving daze

Monday, April 23, 2012

We are in the process of moving into our new flat, and we don't have Internet until next Friday. Plus, this little lady has a cold. She seems to be a bit better today though so we are off to IKEA for a few important items. Wish us luck. :)

Four lovely days in Bath

Monday, April 16, 2012

Wow, Bath was amazing! What a beautiful city. We stayed in a flat in the Royal Crescent, which is basically the best place you can stay in Bath and it was the most desired location for the Regency era folk to stay at the time as well. If you're at all into Jane Austen like me, you'll recognize it from the movies. Two of Austen's novels took place in Bath (Persuasion and Northanger Abbey, I'd recommend reading Northanger as I enjoyed it much more than Persuasion if you're only going to read one!) We also took a side trip to Oxford and then on to Blenhiem Palace, the seat of the Dukes of Marlborough and home of the birthplace of Winston Churchill. The last photo is from the Pump Room, and it's the fountain from which you can drink the famous Bath Water. It tasted a little like blood if you ask me, very mineraly. Also, it was quite warm as the spring is naturally hot. My Aunt and Cousin came from America to stay in Bath for two weeks and it was with them that we stayed, and we were so grateful that they gave us this opportunity to join them! We also visited a little Avian Center in Burton-on-the-water, which was really fun for Lani and Me (in case you didn't know this, I LOVE birds). This was also our first time travelling by plane with Lani and overall it wasn't too bad. To be fair though, the flight from Edinburgh to Bristol was only 55 minutes! She cried a little on the way home, mostly due to the fact that it was nearing midnight and she was still awake! All in all, it was fantastic and I'd love to go again someday when she's a little older.

The Royal Crescent

Saturday, April 14, 2012

Wow, I have so many photos to share, but let me say we had an amazing time on our trip to Bath, England. We stayed in the Royal Crescent (which was amazing!) and I think I could have lived in that flat forever and been happy. Just thought I would share this quick photo of me from the trip and i'll update soon with a proper post of our little English adventure!

Bath time chatter...

Sunday, April 8, 2012

I love this age. I'm certain she knows exactly what she's saying too.

Happy Easter everyone! Lani tucked right into her basket, which we went way overboard on, this morning. I took some photos but they didn't turn out very nice as I was too busy enjoying the moment rather than trying to take great photos of it. I'll probably post one or two later on. :)

Half birthday fun

Saturday, April 7, 2012

Yesterday Lani turned 18 months old. I'm planning on taking her 18 month photos while we are in Bath, but we wanted to do something special with her anyway. We had a sushi lunch after signing the lease on our new flat (we get the keys the day after we get back from Bath!!), and then we headed down to Dynamic Earth. It's basically a science exhibit about earth, and while we enjoyed some aspects of it (there's a real 'ice berg' inside) overall it was a huge let down. Luckily Lani is still too small to really notice and she enjoyed running around, especially as we just bought her a Little Life Day Sack. She really enjoyed the freedom of not having to hold our hands 24/7, and we enjoyed the safety of it. I was always against those "leashes for kids", but now that I'm a mom I can really see how useful they are. We ended the afternoon with a vegan soy milkshake from Shakeaway, which recently opened on Rose St. I had a chocolate mocha flavor, and Ry and Lani shared the strawberry one. They were delicious! Now we are all just getting exciting for Easter tomorrow and our trip to Bath on Tuesday!

Lani's Lunches, the third...

Thursday, April 5, 2012

I hadn't realized I had taken a photo of so many of these lately! And she's only wearing her pajamas for lunch for two of these photos, haha. I generally don't dress her until after lunch if we have no other plans as then she can take her afternoon nap in her comfy jammies. ;)

Pear and grape fruit salad, peas, veggie burger with ketchup and strawberry soya milk.

Cream cheese sandwiches with apples, grapes, and falafel.

Pita pockets with hummus (and one with fake ham), fake ham bits, sliced grapes, and falafel.

Pita pockets with hummus, falafel, cucumber slices and apple slices.

Baked beans with sliced cucumber, peas, and a bit of pita and bagel.

Pita pocket with hummus, soya hotdog, cucumbers and baby plum tomatoes, and sliced apples.

Goodbye Dreads...

After a year of dreadlocks, which I thought I would have for much longer I made the decision to brush them out and cut my hair short. I'm actually really happy with how it turned out. Less than a week until we leave for Bath, England (home of Jane Austen!!!) and I cannot wait. It's going to be amazing!

The clearest way to the Universe is through a forest wilderness...

Monday, April 2, 2012

In just about two weeks we are moving into a new flat, and this will be the first time Lani will have a room of her own. After some debate, we settled on a 'Forest theme' bedroom. We are getting a giant tree decal for her wall, and we bought this super cute forest rug from IKEA. There's so many other little bits and bobs I'd love to do for the room, though.

This rabbit lamp has been one of my favorites since I first saw it in John Lewis and I would LOVE to buy this for her room. Though, due to it's breakable nature, I'm wondering if it would be a smart purchase. ;)
I was searching for the right, cute fox figurine for Lani's shelf that was decorative and playable when I found this Holztiger fox. He's perfect, isn't he?

I'm not sure how nessecary a clock is for a child's room, but this one is gorgeous.

I'm debating whether or not I'm going to make a teepee myself for her lovely wee room, but if I was going to purchase one, this one from miniluu is just right.

It's been so much fine deciding what to do with her space, and I can't wait to be moved in and get everything set up for her and work on a few little projects I have in mind to make it even more fun for her.
